Google Hangout: Next-Generation Energy Management In Practice

RMI and CoreNet Global—the world’s leading association for corporate real estate (CRE) and workplace professionals—recently collaborated to develop a set of strategic solutions that corporate real estate professionals can use to achieve the highest goals practical and profitable for building energy performance.

The efforts of this research have led to our upcoming report, Next-Generation Energy Management, to be released later this month in conjunction with the CoreNet Global Summit to be held October 27–29 in Washington, DC.

The solutions presented in the report—which were informed by extensive third-party research and guided by interviews with 14 key industry experts—fall into three categories:

  • Organize—lay the appropriate foundation for pursuing the next step in building energy performance,
  • Capitalize—seek out opportunities for profitable energy management investment, and
  • Optimize—wring the most value out of the other solutions.

The strategic solutions emphasize, for example, the importance of pursuing energy efficiency before renewable energy generation or offsets, investing in “smart” building management, adopting strategies for health and productivity, supporting workplace mobility and density, enabling a holistic and value-based investment approach, and allocating investments across portfolios.

Watch a Google Hangout featuring Craig Van Pelt of CoreNet Global, Mike Bendewald of RMI, and two of the key industry experts that were interviewed for this report—Ron Herbst, Energy & Sustainability Product Manager with Deutsche Bank and John Schinter, AVP of Energy and Smart Buildings with AT&T.
