Sasha is a senior associate in RMI’s Climate Intelligence Program as part of the Oil & Gas Solutions Initiative. Sasha’s current work focuses on quantifying and characterizing methane emissions from the oil and gas sector utilizing modeled, measured, and reported data across a variety of industry, government, nonprofit, and academic sources.
Background
Before joining RMI, Sasha interned at SkyTruth, where he processed satellite imagery into narrative maps and articles investigating environmental harms such as offshore oil spills, tanker bilge marine pollution, and oil and gas drilling in protected areas. Here he deployed skills in open-source computer vision and machine learning models to support detecting changes in satellite imagery for near real-time environmental monitoring.
Sasha has also used his skills in remote sensing and cartography to publish maps as resources for community food banks, eviction protection organizations, urban heat vulnerability, and other environmental justice projects.
