10 Zero-Emission Trucking Routes for Viksit Bharat
India’s zero-emission trucking (ZET) market is taking off rapidly, driven by the recent rollout of government subsidies for electric vehicles and deployments by early movers. Now is the time to seize this momentum and accelerate adoption, with ZET corridors serving as a powerful lever to drive the transition.
ZET corridors are highway segments equipped with charging or refueling infrastructure that enable seamless goods movement. Establishing these corridors can improve the utilization of ZET infrastructure, demonstrate the operational and financial viability of ZETs, help manage risks and reduce costs, and unlock private capital for ZET projects.
Recognizing their importance, the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, in collaboration with RMI, pManifold, and the Centre of Excellence for Zero Emission Trucking (CoEZET), has identified the top 10 corridors best suited for near-term ZET deployment. The selection was based on key factors including traffic density, presence of major industries, grid and charging infrastructure readiness, and stakeholder alignment.

This brief presents the key findings from this strategic initiative. It outlines the corridor identification process, recommended actions for effective implementation, and key facilities and data to support ZET corridor deployment. For each of the top 10 routes, the publication visually identifies the grid infrastructure locations, fuel stations, industrial sites, and proposed charging sites along the route with insights on applications and ZET readiness based on real-world data. This first-of-its-kind mapping effort lays the groundwork for the deployment of charging infrastructure along these routes.
This brief is intended to serve as a practical blueprint for stakeholders to accelerate ZET deployment along these corridors and guide decision-making for effective implementation.
