About This Event

RMI aluminum experts will attend the World Aluminum Conference 2024 to meet with industry leaders and provide guidance for decarbonization strategies across the industry. RMI’s Wenjuan Liu and Hylla Barbosa are addressing GHG emissions and a climate-aligned aluminum sector in a panel and an interactive session at the conference.

Panel Discussion
May 14, 2:30-3:30 GMT
GHG emissions — methods, guidance, tools, and future alignment

At the current rate, the aluminum sector will have used up its net zero carbon budget in 10-15 years. This expert panel will explore ways in which companies all along the value chain (aluminum producers *and* consumers) can drive the change required to meet a 1.5°C degree future, as well as enablers of and barriers to that change.

  • Chris Bayliss, Climate Change and Decarbonisation Director, Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI)
  • Wenjuan Liu, Manager, RMI
  • Pernelle Nunez, Deputy Secretary General / Director – Sustainability, International Aluminium Institute (IAI)
  • Sandro Starita, Director Sustainability, European Aluminium

Workshop
May 16, 9:30-12 GMT
Enabling a 1.5°C degree-aligned aluminum sector — pathways, tools, and guidance

In this interactive session, attendees from across the value chain will have the chance to explore recently developed and published tools and guidance for a 1.5°C degree aligned (net zero) aluminum sector.

  • Chris Bayliss, Climate Change and Decarbonisation Director, Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI)
  • Pernelle Nunez, Deputy Secretary General / Director – Sustainability, International Aluminium Institute (IAI)
