GREENMAP AND RMI Collaborate to Support Governments of Developing Countries

Boulder, CO — September 23, 2020

We are honored to announce that the Global Renewable Energy Mass Adoption Program (GREENMAP) and Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) have signed a collaboration agreement to advise governments and scale renewable energy markets in developing countries around the globe.

Joint work has already started, with a focus on opportunities in the Caribbean and sub-Saharan Africa that explore solutions for utility-scale and distributed renewable energy generation. Most countries in these regions, despite their particular characteristics and differences, have a great need for support in designing and implementing renewable energy programs that are innovative and effective, and expand access to clean, reliable and affordable energy for their people.

GREENMAP will assist governments in the design and implementation of technical, legal and financial instruments to enhance existing and/or planned renewable energy procurement programs. The program will especially work on credit-enhancement and de-risking tools to improve market attractiveness for local and global investors, foster competition and reduce the costs of generating renewable energy.

RMI will continue to support countries in the development of renewable and sustainable projects and portfolios. This work includes conducting project identification and development activities, feasibility studies, permitting, documentation due diligence and other tasks aimed at facilitating the financing and realization of such projects.
