Gareth is a senior associate in RMI’s Climate-Aligned Industries program, working for the Carbon Dioxide Removal initiative. During his time at RMI, Gareth has also worked on incorporating community engagement and environmental justice into heavy industry decarbonization projects and developing state strategy for building decarbonization in Massachusetts and New Jersey.
Background
Prior to joining RMI, Gareth helped disaster-affected communities engage in long-term recovery planning and built local recovery capacity as part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Community Planning and Capacity Building branch. He directly assisted communities in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands after Hurricanes Irma and Maria and communities in Southwest Wisconsin after historic floods in 2018. He then worked at FEMA headquarters, where he led a project to develop a standardized system for identifying communities with significant disaster impact as well as local government capacity, population vulnerability, and equity concerns. He also contributed to multiple guidance documents for both federal disaster recovery employees and local governments and helped create a working group to facilitate data sharing and access across federal agencies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2017, Gareth completed a year of national service as a team leader with Americorps National Civilian Community Corps.
