Solutions Dialogue: Scaling Energy Transition Solutions in Emerging Markets

November 15–15, 2024 10:15-11:15 Azerbaijan Time (GMT+4)
In-person In-person

Throughout 2024, the Powering Past Coal Alliance (PPCA) has been hosting a series of solutions dialogues, sharing lessons learned from first movers, key findings, and innovative solutions from international experts. In Santiago, Jakarta, New York, Singapore, and others, the PPCA has been gathering solutions to address the challenges of early retirement, just transition, and security of supply, noting that these are critical issues that emerging markets face when considering how to phase out coal from their energy systems.

This COP29 Solutions Dialogue will conclude the series and spotlight the Americas and the Asia-Pacific region. It will highlight the support available from governments, technical partners, and financial mechanisms to help emerging economies develop plans and take the necessary steps toward a coal phaseout aligned with the 1.5°C target.

One panel in the Solutions Dialogue will be moderated by Brian O’Hanlon, an RMI climate finance expert, and will feature the following panel of notable speakers who represent governments that are on track to reach 100 percent clean energy for their electric grid by 2030:

  • Maisa Rojas Corradi, Minister of Environment, Chile
  • Benoit Charette, Minister of the Environment, the Fight Against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks, Québec, Canada
  • Dr. Paul Kearns, Director of Argonne National Laboratory
