Emissions Transparency – Catalyst to Action in the Waste Sector
Emissions Transparency – identifying methane emission sources and being able to effectively measure emissions reductions, is critical for catalyzing investments in the waste sector. Greater transparency and certainty of emissions is a common goal of civil society, regulatory and financial institutions. Satellites have been a game changer in identifying waste disposal sites and their emissions globally, but a framework for measurement reporting and verification, and top down – bottom up reconciliation is critical to gain confidence in emissions baseline and reductions from regulatory, technical, and waste management interventions. During this event at COP29 hosted by RMI’s Tom Frankiwiewicz, panelists will discuss the barriers to action in the waste sector and how bringing greater visibility to current emissions and creating a pathway to measuring and verifying emission reductions will move financial and regulatory stakeholders to action.
