With upcoming emissions disclosure rules, tax incentives, international carbon pricing regulations, and increasing Scope 3 commitments, green steel is becoming an increasingly important decarbonization lever to maintain resilience and competitiveness in the new policy environment. However, several challenges persist for buyers considering green steel offtake, including high premiums, supply chain complexities, and navigating the product certification landscape. RMI’s Sustainable Steel Buyers Platform (SSBP) is an initiative that supports buyers in green steel procurement efforts. Initially launched in 2023 to support green steel procurement efforts by a cohort of North American buyers, RMI launched an Asia-Pacific SSBP cohort in May 2026 to support buyers with presence in the region. Co-hosted by Green Building Japan, Corporate Action Japan, Transition Asia, and RMI, this webinar will provide an overview of the international policy landscape for green steel and present the SSBP model and its value offerings to member companies, with reflections on learnings from the North American procurement effort.
