Capital Meets Capacity
How Green Banks and Economic Development Organizations Can Power the Electro-Industrial Economy
Every state wants a share of the electro-industrial economy: the advanced manufacturing, battery plants, and grid infrastructure now driving competition for jobs and investment. Two models for toolkits have grown up largely in parallel to chase it: economic development organizations, which lead with tax incentives and grants to attract regional business and investment, and green banks, which use financing and risk-sharing tools to help projects access traditional capital. This session brings both worlds together.
Drawing on RMI’s new framework for state public investment and financing institutions (SPIFIs) and the Green Bank 50’s first field-wide Impact Report, panelists will explore how EDOs can tap into green banks’ tools to bolster regional competitiveness, and how green banks can better align their financing tools with economic development strategies and regional investment needs and opportunities. The goal is to generate practical ideas for states looking to combine both tools to win electro-industrial investment.
Additional panelists to be announced.
