About This Event

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) provides a suite of federal resources that enable electric utilities to improve both system reliability and affordability, but regulators face information barriers and capacity constraints that prevent them from assessing the comprehensive impact of IRA incentives. Without knowing what’s possible, it’s difficult to prioritize the regulatory actions needed to take advantage of this law for customers.

Join us as a panel of RMI experts gives an overview of the IRA Implementation Guide (IRAIG), a tool that can help regulators understand where these immediate, no-regrets opportunities for ratepayer savings are. These insights will empower regulators to ask utilities to explore the ways that IRA incentives can benefit ratepayers. The first IRAIG analysis will focus on “clean repowering,” a promising opportunity to use IRA incentives to address the challenges of interconnection queues and supply chain constraints. By using existing fossil asset interconnection rights, new electricity resources such as renewable energy and storage can be deployed much faster than the current average project timeline, potentially cutting years out of the process.
