Geopolitical tensions and recent energy crises have put resilience, security, and affordability at the center of energy and industrial strategy. Against this backdrop, new trade relationships that advance shared economic, industrial, energy security, and climate objectives are increasingly valuable, particularly for emerging green commodities that must compete with established fossil-based supply chains.

This prefeasibility study examines the potential for a green ammonia trade corridor connecting the Indian state of Odisha with four industrial clusters in Northwest Europe. Building on nearly two years of engagement with industry and policymakers in India and Europe, the study assesses what it would take to move substantial volumes of green ammonia through the corridor as early as 2030.

The report evaluates the corridor across three critical dimensions: competitive supply, bankable demand, and midstream infrastructure readiness.

The report is structured in four sections:

  1. Supply: Assesses Odisha’s project pipeline, production economics, RFNBO compliance, and delivered costs into Northwest Europe.
  2. Demand: Evaluates green ammonia and hydrogen demand across the four major European industrial clusters, the policies driving that demand, potential volumes under current and illustrative policy scenarios, and the competitiveness of Indian supply for priority end uses.
  3. Midstream Infrastructure: Assesses infrastructure readiness at both ends of the corridor and the minimum viable scale at which initial assets could become commercially credible.
  4. Overall Assessment and Path to Commercialization: Brings these elements together to assess the corridor’s readiness, identify potential business models, and outline the actions needed to move from prefeasibility toward implementation.
