The 4th of July is approaching and, for those in the United States, the holiday means parades, picnics, and fireworks to commemorate the nation’s founding. As the United States celebrates its independence, we at RMI are celebrating energy independence everywhere.
Energy independence can mean different things to different people and in different regions. For some, it may mean not relying on imported fuels; for others it may translate into generating your own electricity without being connected to the grid; or independence can simply mean becoming better able to ride out energy price spikes due to geopolitical issues.
RMI’s work over the years has helped families, businesses, and communities to be energy independent in ways that make sense for their local needs. Whether it’s farmers in Africa who have lowered their energy costs and boosted their income thanks to renewable energy, or low-income families in Illinois who can now harvest electricity from the sun, people around the world are building cleaner, more resilient, and more self-reliant energy systems.
