Cato Koole is a manager with RMI’s Climate-Aligned Industries Program, where she works on decarbonizing the maritime industry. She is deputy lead for the shipping team and leads maritime energy supply work, where she and her team advance maritime zero-carbon fuel export from global south export hubs to major bunkering ports.
Previously, she and her team worked on creating clarity on future fuel supply, and related cost and trade dynamics to promote investment in projects and infrastructure. This resulted in the report Oceans of Opportunity, supplying green methanol and ammonia at ports. Earlier, she contributed to analysis and convening to advance hydrogen adoption in several hard-to-abate sectors.
Background
Before joining RMI, Cato worked as a consultant for NewForesight, a strategic consultancy firm specializing in driving innovation and accelerating systems change across sectors worldwide, with expertise in establishing and facilitating leadership coalitions and setting up change platforms.
Prior to NewForesight, Cato worked as an independent consultant for innovative sustainability initiatives with high systemic change potential, such as Follow This — a shareholders’ initiative working to align global oil majors’ emissions targets with the goals of the Paris Agreement through shareholder resolutions.
