8th Minigrid Action Learning Event

April 1–3, 2025
In-person In-person

Alberto Rodríguez Gómez, manager on RMI’s Africa Energy Program, will be speaking on a panel at the 8th Minigrid Action Learning Event in Lusaka, Zambia. His panel, titled “The Role of Interconnected Minigrids (IMGs) in Achieving M300 & SDG7” will highlight learnings and insights from real-world case studies recently supported by RMI in partnership with GEAPP, which have demonstrated the viability of IMGs.

The panel will explore Nigeria’s pioneering initiatives under the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP) and the Distribution Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) program. Additionally, the discussion will explore the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector’s role in IMGs, emphasizing how interconnected systems can reduce energy costs for industrial customers while preventing revenue losses for African distribution companies.

IMGs represent a significant step toward achieving universal electrification in Africa. By bridging the gap between the main grid and distributed renewable energy solutions, IMGs enhance electricity access, reliability, and affordability. This session will explore how IMGs contribute to the Mission 300 initiative and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 7, which seeks universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy.
