In this presentation, Amory Lovins argues that America’s energy infrastructure is vulnerable to disruption, either accidentally or intentionally. He describes the weak energy infrastructure as more of a threat to national energy security than threats to oil imports. The presentation highlights examples of vulnerabilities in the energy system. This presentation reinforces the economic and environmental arguments for a more efficient, diverse, distributed, and renewable energy system that were first laid out in the 1981 book Brittle Power. Lovins provides examples of strategies to create a more efficient, secure, and resilient energy system. This presentation was given at the Alliance to Save Energy Summit in Washington, DC and (jointly with L. Hunter Lovins) at RMI’s Quest for Solutions event in Aspen, CO.
