Webinar: Tackling Food Waste & Landfill Methane Emissions

August 24–24, 2023
In-person In-person

With opening remarks from Gina McCarthy, first-ever White House national climate advisor and former US EPA Administrator, this webinar hosted by America Is All In will provide an overview of the major opportunities to reduce methane emissions from food waste and landfills through a whole-of-society approach. Join us to learn more about how our trash contributes to climate change and how combining actions from the federal government with actions from states, cities, businesses, and other institutions can deliver the emission reductions urgently needed in this decade and beyond.

When food waste and other organics decompose in landfills, they generate methane, a super-potent greenhouse gas. In the United States, landfills are the third largest source of planet-warming methane emissions after oil and gas and agriculture. Thankfully, strategies exist today to slash these emissions: from food waste prevention to organics diversion to improved landfill controls. This webinar will highlight success stories from the America Is All In coalition, featuring leading states, cities, businesses, and universities that are taking action to reduce food waste and landfill emissions. The webinar will also provide actionable next steps on waste methane to scale local efforts and make the most of federal funding and policy opportunities.
