A hotly debated topic, the present and future state of nuclear power and its competitors are the subjects of this presentation by Amory Lovins at RMI2009. Lovins argues that nuclear power is losing to micropower and renewable energy choices because they are cheaper, even with carbon pricing. Likewise, energy end-use efficiency is cheaper than nuclear power and, using integrative design, radical energy and financial savings are possible. Lovins also discusses the reliability of nuclear power compared to that of renewable and efficient sources. This presentation was part of a plenary debate with Robert Rosner entitled, Nuclear: Fix or Folly?” The accompanying video of the entire debate is available at RMI’s Video page.
