In accordance with Section 111 of the Session Law – Acts of 2024, Chater 239, the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) in partnership with the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), is undertaking a comprehensive study to evaluate the prospects and opportunities for carbon dioxide removal (CDR) innovation and operations within the Commonwealth and its adjacent marine territories (not more than 50 nautical miles off the commonwealth). This “CDR study” has been commissioned to address the urgent need to scale durable and verifiable climate solutions that meaningfully contribute to net zero ambitions and position Massachusetts as a potential leader in the emerging CDR sector.

RMI is engaging with stakeholders over the next six months to spread awareness of the project and gather feedback. In this one-hour introductory roundtable for members of the Massachusetts Executive Branch and Agencies, we explained the contents of the study, presented a timeline of the report development, and requested suggestions from officials to further inform the study.

We will also be conducting an online survey to collect feedback from officials. Please submit the survey by Monday October 13 at 11:59pm ET.
