As world leaders gather in Dubai for the 28th annual Conference of the Parties (COP), signals on the climate front are mixed. The message coming from the COP, which is hosted by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), is that we are still off track in meeting the climate targets set to avoid the worst consequences of climate change.

But this is a time to capitalize on the momentum around the energy transition and get back on course. To do so, we need to re-energize the world: Transition its energy production; finance a green-energy economy that boosts prosperity and jobs around the world; and supply clean energy access to those without electricity at all.

RMI comes to COP with a legacy of applied hope that technology and market forces can bring the change we need in the world. We bring our expertise in transition finance, industrial solutions like green hydrogen, and methane reduction to pursue a just and equitable approach to the energy transition.

Leveraging Data to Reduce Scope 3 Emissions

While Scope 3 emissions typically constitute 70% of a company’s footprint, complex value chains and a lack of data make these hard to tackle. Access to granular, consistent and comparable data, however, is essential to enable carbon-informed decisions, increase confidence in reporting and disclosures, and track performance. RMI partners The…

Later Is Too Late: Tipping the Balance from Negative to Positive

The Global Carbon Budget shows emissions rising and time running out to deliver the Paris Agreement. As global warming pushes humanity closer to dangerous tipping points, our only way out is rapid CO2 emissions cuts and triggering positive tipping points. Around the world, concerted efforts are activating positive social, economic, political and technological shifts that are driving progress towards cleaner energy and a safer future — faster than many realise. COP28 is a vital opportunity to harness exponential change and get us back on course. Because later is too late.
