RMI Hires Climate Equity Expert as Director of Energy Equity Strategies to Advocate for Clean Energy Transition Worldwide

Carmelita Miller, Senior Director of Climate Equity at The Greenlining Institute, joins RMI to integrate equitable solutions for transforming the global energy system.

Boulder, CO – March 28, 2022

RMI is pleased to announce Carmelita Kelly Miller as its Director of Energy Equity Strategies, a new role created to integrate equitable solutions for the clean energy transition across the organization’s portfolio of work. In the United States and around the world, RMI works with communities, governments and the private sector to define and accelerate affordable, reliable and inclusive clean energy solutions. Miller brings to RMI community-rooted legal and policy expertise, as well as deep experience working with impacted communities across the energy sector.

Miller is an experienced leader in energy justice who most recently served as Senior Director of Climate Equity for The Greenlining Institute, where she worked since 2013. She helped transform advocacy and policies in energy by prioritizing communities that are the most impacted by climate change but have the least access to the benefits of clean energy. In particular, throughout her career, Miller has integrated energy into health and economic development strategies as a solution to address racial disparities in climate responses. Carmelita was born in the Philippines before immigrating to the San Francisco Bay Area and holds a J.D. from UC Hastings College of the Law.

“This is an exciting opportunity to lead RMI’s strategies to support our communities across the United States and globally,” Miller said. “I look forward to intensifying RMI’s work to align with energy equity and justice goals.”

“As climate change progresses, the solutions are becoming more urgent, and we have to bring everyone along in the energy transition,” said RMI CEO Jules Kortenhorst. “Carmelita is the bold leader that RMI needs at this time to ensure our energy solutions are equitable, just and inclusive.”

As Director of Energy Equity Strategies, Miller will guide research and insights for making the energy transition equitable. She will work with community-based organizations that serve low-income and environmental justice communities and many key energy stakeholders across the United States, Africa, China and India to forge partnerships and strengthen RMI’s support of community-led and community-centered policies.
