What was BetterFleet?

A first-of-its-kind tool that operated from 2016 to 2018, BetterFleet brought unprecedented performance transparency to the global shipping industry through a free-to-access operational efficiency portal that compared a ship’s operation over the past year against its peers. rnrnBetterFleet was based on the idea that improving efficiency in the shipping fleet requires greater data transparency and a broader perspective than focus on technical efficiency alone. Although the more efficient design of new ships is regulated, the majority of ships currently trading internationally are not subject to any greenhouse gas emissions regulations. The lack of transparent data makes emissions reduction a complex challenge. rn

Why did it matter?

BetterFleet allowed any registered user to see the path and performance of a specific vessel over a 12-month period, helping those using the industry as part of their supply chain to make more informed decisions about how they ship their goods.
