Renewable Energy

Real-world emissions reductions in the energy sector

Not all energy attribute certificates (EACs) such as Renewable Energy Certificates and Guarantees of Origin are created equal. EACs currently measure megawatt-hours, not emissions. EACs are also treated equally regardless of their impact on new renewable energy generation. And most rely on average emissions factors, which are insufficient at showing the grid impact of electricity usage.

Horizon Zero’s Renewable Energy Emissions Score quantifies the material emissions impact of energy attribute certificates relative to operational emissions to result in real emissions reductions.
