Bethany Costello

Associate

Bethany is an associate on RMI’s Carbon-Free Electricity team. Her work centers around supporting stakeholders including regulators, utilities, and consumer advocates in their efforts to transition distribution grids to clean energy in both US and international contexts.

Background

Before joining RMI, Bethany worked in the Solar Energy Technologies Office of the US Department of Energy where she supported efforts to expand equitable access to distributed solar, streamline large-scale solar siting and permitting, and improve consumer protections for residential solar.

Before DOE, Bethany was a Thomas J. Watson Fellow pursuing independent study on community-led environmental efforts and activism through informational interviews, volunteering, and solo travel across a variety of cultural, political, and economic contexts throughout Southeast Asia, Southeastern Europe, and Argentina. She has also worked at the Environmental Voter Project, the Capital District Regional Planning Commission, and the community solar company Common Energy.
