Carbon Mapper

What: Carbon Mapper is an NGO that supports the deployment of satellites and aircraft with the ability to identify, quantify, and attribute global methane and CO2 point-source emissions at the scale of individual facilities and equipment. It is a consortium of public, private, and non-profit organizations.
Why:
Carbon Mapper will help accelerate the mitigation of methane super-emitters, independently verify power plant CO2 emissions, and identify, quantify, and track methane emissions at the facility scale.
Who:
NASA Jet Propulsion Lab, Planet, California Air Resources Board, High Tide Foundation and RMI are engaged with a host of public and private actors who will use Carbon Mapper data.
This Year:
Carbon Mapper was publicly announced and is conducting numerous aerial flyovers to test sensors. In 2023, Carbon Mapper will launch the first two satellites.
