Learn how we are working to transform how we use and produce energy.
Engage & Act

Engage & Act is a platform that allows investors and other key stakeholders to easily explore the opportunities and risks investor-owned utilities face in the transition to a reliable, affordable, and clean energy system. It provides data and RMI expertise that answers the questions:
- Which utilities say they’re leading the way?
- Which utilities are actually leading the way?
- How have utilities’ plans changed over time?
To meet global climate targets, the US electricity sector must meet twice the electricity demand with a fraction of the emissions by 2035. This will require about $3 trillion of investment raised by utilities from public debt and equity markets. However, current emissions targets aren’t ambitious enough to achieve climate alignment, and utility resource plans lag even further behind. A large opportunity remains to increase investment in zero-carbon electricity generation technologies and meet the needs of the future grid.
Engage with the Data
RMI has the insights stakeholders need to empower a rapid change to a safer climate. We deliver monthly data updates that cover recent changes to all publicly available US electric utility resource plans, model the implied emissions of these plans, and compare results to decarbonization scenarios and to peer utilities. This provides a unique comprehensive view of what utilities expect their future to look like. We identify utilities that anticipate increases to electricity demand, how they plan to meet that demand, and whether their strategy aligns with the needs of investors, customers, and the climate — or where it leaves opportunity for improvement.
Act with Purpose
Combined with engagement support, Engage & Act’s unique data and insights empower investors and other key stakeholders to work with electric utilities to create plans that take full advantage of opportunities available. We leverage our RMI experts in specific topic areas for in-depth educational meetings, help stakeholders prepare for upcoming utility engagement meetings with additional analysis, and welcome opportunities to collaborate on publications.
