Matt Sugihara

Matt is a former Senior Associate with RMI’s Carbon-Free Electricity Program. He focused on regulatory reform and utility business model change to incentivize an equitable and swift transformation of the global energy system.

Background

Prior to joining RMI, Matt held a variety of environmental, regulatory, and social impact management positions with ExxonMobil. Most recently, Matt supervised ExxonMobil’s regulatory compliance team and environmental policy efforts for its Guyana operations to lower greenhouse gas emissions and reduce socioeconomic impacts. Prior to this, he held several international positions focused on environmental and social safeguards, with particular interest in biodiversity, conservation, and cultural heritage on projects in Brazil, Mozambique, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
