Manager
  • Climate-Aligned Industries

Cara manages RMI’s efforts to accelerate deployment of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) approaches through integration into existing industries. Her work also covers scientific assessment of larger, systems scaling needs for growing the CDR ecosystem.

Background

Cara Maesano joined RMI in 2022 as a founding member of the CDR Initiative, bringing a diverse scientific background and experience in international collaboration to advancing carbon dioxide removal solutions. Her work at RMI builds upon that previously conducted at the nonprofit, The Climate Map, where she was focused on the assessment of geochemical CDR pathways and their potential impacts. Prior to working in the field of CDR, Cara was a research engineer at Sorbonne University, conducting studies on the impacts of climate change on public health, global and local air pollution assessments, and environmental exposure assessments. Her scientific training covered topics in experimental high energy and nuclear physics, and cosmology, and her PhD work focused on cosmic ray backgrounds to neutrino experiments. Cara also has previous experience in entrepreneurship and venture capital.
