Principles for Blockchain-Based Emissions Reporting

By  Charles CannonShannon HughesMarc JohnsonEmily LongPaolo Natali

Existing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reporting tools are static, based on PDFs and spreadsheets, and are not suitable for visualizing and tracing emissions information through complex supply chains. Without a high level of accuracy and traceability, climate disclosures will not be useful for a company or consumer trying to purchase low-carbon products. The objective of this brief is to define the opportunity and propose a path forward to transform climate disclosures by introducing a blockchain-based technical architecture that will more comprehensively track and trace emissions throughout supply chain operations.
