What is EMERGE?

EMERGE is a connected, global event featuring facilitated dialogues among key global actors and thought leaders to identify where and how we can act quickly to address the greatest challenges in the energy transition. Together with its partners, RMI is hosting separate, linked meetings in New Delhi, New York, and Beijing to address the need for coordinated global action now.

What We Will Do

As input to these convenings, RMI will offer a bold reframing of how global institutions can collaboratively address seven key challenges at the core of the global energy transformation. Through dynamic, participatory dialogues, we will identify opportunities for gigaton-scale emissions reductions.

Together, we will:

  • Share and test perspectives on the energy transition and the challenges that must be addressed to achieve it.
  • Engage in dialogue to calibrate and refine our understanding of the challenges and opportunities ahead.
  • Reflect on our individual and institutional agency to make change.
  • Identify priority areas for collaborative action.

Drawing on insights from EMERGE, RMI will launch in 2020 a Global Energy Solutions Lab to advance new, globally scalable initiatives to speed the energy transition. All EMERGE participants will receive synthesized findings from the meetings, along with early insights and opportunities to participate in subsequent events.

Why EMERGE?

The global forces in the energy transition are unlocking new opportunities to create social and economic value. But globally scaling solutions fast enough to avoid severe climate consequences requires unprecedented coordination across diverse institutions. EMERGE is a vehicle for working in this way.

Who Is Involved?

Invited participants include senior leaders from industry, government, civil society and philanthropy across diverse market sectors and institutions shaping the energy system. We are inviting participants who are:

  • Motivated  to work to solve the climate crisis now.
  • Curious  to learn about new, groundbreaking opportunities.
  • Collaborative  and ready to work across traditional boundaries.
  • Empowered  with influence and resources to test and refine real solutions.

Join us to assess the landscape of energy transition opportunities and prioritize  areas for  action, which have the potential to each deliver 1 GT of CO2  reduction per year within the next three to five years.
